Below you will find a list of the necessary equipment, clothing and important personal items. This is merely only a recommendation from us and is based on experience.
We would be happy to advise you in advance and then specifically in detail before the climb to Kilimanjaro.
You can also rent backpacks, weatherproof clothing, hiking sticks, hats/caps etc. from us if necessary. Avoid cotton clothing as it gets wet quickly and doesn’t dry on the mountain. It is better to bring fabrics made of polypropylene, merino wool, silk, flannel or fleece.
* Waterproof jacket (not just water-repellent)
* Waterproof pants
* Warm jacket (ski or down jacket)
* Lightweight trousers (these are worn over the thermal trousers but under the waterproof trousers)
* Warm pants (for evenings/nights when it gets cold)
* Thick hiking socks / thermal socks (at least 6-8 pairs)
* Mountain/hiking boots (waterproof with ankle protection) that are already well-worn in!
* Gaiters (worn over shoes to keep them dry)
* Gloves (thin and thick waterproof and windproof gloves;
* Mittens/snowboard gloves (have proven useful for the summit night)
* Thermal clothing
*Water bottle (Please note that no light plastic bottles are allowed on the mountain.)
* Sunglasses
* Balaclava
* Walking sticks
* Backpack for all things for your climb (this is carried by the porters – soft – max. 14kg)
* Daypack that you carry yourself with everyday items (max. 10kg)
* Waterproof cover for your backpack and other bags
* Sleeping pillow
* Sleeping bag (good cold resistance, with additional flannel or silk lining if required)
* Good sturdy clothing (long and short sleeve shirts, fleece, hiking pants and shorts)
* Sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (50+)
* Lip balm with SPF25 protection
* Beanie/Hat & Warm Hat
* Bandana / Buff (scarf type)
* Energy bars/gel (at least 2 per day) * Cookies & snacks
* Simple first aid kit with blister plasters, Bepanthen wound ointment or zinc ointment
* Toiletry bag (with toilet paper, soap, toothbrush, wet wipes, antibacterial gel)
* Plastic bags/sacks (to keep clothes and sleeping bag dry)
* Small towel
* Hankies/Tissue (the higher you go, the more your nose runs)
* Earplugs
* Camera + additional batteries / power bank (you cannot charge your camera on the mountain)
* Flashlight and/or headlamp + additional batteries
Medication:
* Diamox (altitude sickness tablets)
* Paracetamol / Ibuprofen
* Diarrhea tablets
* Eye drops, especially for contact lens wearers
* Personal medications
* Mosquito/insect repellent, possibly malaria prophylaxis in tablet form (mosquitoes can transmit an infection up to an altitude of 2,000 meters. The starting point on Kilimanjaro is at an altitude of around 1,700 meters).
