Along the Machame route through 5 climate zones to Uhuru Peak (Peak of Freedom)
The Machame Route (also called the Whiskey Route) has been named the most beautiful mountaineering route in the world due to its exceptionally beautiful scenery and spectacular views of Mount Meru.
The climb also takes you past particularly scenic places. One of them is the famous and impressive Barranco steep face. Additionally, the hiking trails on this route to the summit of Kilimanjaro are well maintained. Since the descent from the summit takes a different route than the ascent, hikers on the Machame Route get to see a lot of the fascinating landscape of Kilimanjaro.
The Machame Route climb takes six days in total, but can also be done in seven days to allow your body to better adapt to the elevation changes. We recommend this as this extra day increases your chance of reaching the summit. In this case, take an extra day to hike from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp.
